Environmental Awareness

During my studies at the University of Toronto I minored in environmental studies. Not being one to compromise on things I'm passionate about I wanted to make sure that I ran a business that is as conscience of the environment as it is of its clients. Here are some of the steps I've taken to do my part.

When sourcing a printer for my marketing material and feature sheets I found a company that has implemented several environmentally friendly process s into their production without sacrificing quality. Here are some of the  initiatives thay have put in place

    1. They use soy-oil based inks instead of petroleum-based ink
    2. They use coatings that are consist of very low traces of VOC
    3. Fountain solutions are free of or use reduced VOC solutions
    4. Their facility is an alcohol-free environment using only alcohol free substitutes
    5. They utilize recycled paper and paper that is produced specifically for paper-making and is not produced from illegally forested trees.

When I found out that an average server produces the same emissions as a 15 mpg SUV I wanted to find a hosting company that purchased renewable energy to run their servers or at minimum purchased carbon offset credits. Luckily I found both.

My website is with a company that hosts over 1,300,000 websites on its servers. That means a lot of servers, and a lot of carbon emissions. They asked themselves, What they could do to be part of the climate change solution? They took steps to minimize their environmental impact at the office, but still they weren't satisfied. Then they switched to 36% more efficient servers, but still they weren't satisfied!

All of their servers are now 130% wind powered!

      That's right! 130%!

They're not just neutralizing their environmental impact, they're reversing it!

They have purchased certified Renewable Energy Credits representing 130% of the electricity used to both power and cool every last one of their servers!

Just how big a dent in climate change does that make?
      It's the equivalent of:

      1. Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or
      2. Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or
      3. Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or
      4. Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year
